Beauty Visits Spring Canyon Ranch

Jeanne Johnson, of Johnson Canyon, Kanab, UT designed and created this magnificent, completely hand-made quilt/wall hanging to help the Greyhound Gang raise funds to help greyhounds still in need.

The detail and imagination of this fourth-generation quilter is evident with every look at this 34" x 19" quilt.

First, there's the hand-dyed fabric. Beauty, the sky, the cliffs and the grasses are tie dyed, to bring forward the wonders of Mother Nature in skin and earth tones. The other fabric is vat dyed. Beauty's inherent beauty and realness is more evident with the use of traupunto. As is the whole feel of this quilt, as everything is appliquéd, with the quilting done between the appliqué to provide the depth and texture.

Beauty's stunning collar is hand-beaded, reflecting the heart, moon and stars her soul eminates. It's a new day with spring encouraging the Great Blue Heron to stare at his reflection in the pond. The Canadian geese are already multiplying, and the horse is bulking up on clean, green grasses, while the plants are starting their cycle of rebirth.

This quilt is a stunning portrait of southern Utah life, and the greytness of all things small and real.

Quilt Whereabouts
The quilt will be at the Museum of the Dog in St. Louis, MO for an exhibit of dog quilts from September through December. Please do visit the museum to see all the fabulous quilts on display from rescue groups all around the country.
