Sport -- Deb Turpin,
Farmington, Utah
A very well-muscled, 3.5-year-old red brindle male, full brother
to Raider, who is Mr. Velcro. He just puts his head right next to you and insists
that you pet him -- and he won't take no for an answer. He is very sweet, cat
and little dog safe. Will jump on children. Comes immediately when you call.
Travels well.
February 1998

Raider -- Lori and
David Salmon, Las Vegas, Nevada
A gorgeous red fawn, 3.5-year-old male, full brother to Sport.
He was very quiet the first few days, and then as he got comfortable the playful,
high-energy side of him emerged and he appears to like to chew on the corners
of furniture. High energy, will play with toys, loves to run in the yard, likes
kids, is cat and dog safe, and is just an all around sweetheart! Comes immediately
when you call. Travels well in the car.
March 1998

Balsa -- Sharon
Townsend and George Fedleski, Pahrump,
Nevada
Big (85 lb.) white-with-brindle spotted boy. Shy and a bit spooky,
really wants to be loved and petted. He keeps his distance, but with lots of
gentle encouragement and talking will come up to you to be petted, though the
whole time he acts as if you may hurt him instead. Likes to know what is going
on, everywhere. Needs a home with quiet and understanding, and he will return
someone's love tenfold.

John and Zam --
Laura and Trent Morse, Las Vegas, Nevada
John:
A five-year-old, dark brindle male, who is very full of himself. High energy,
he plays, he barks, he talks, he nips, he is just Mr. Personality, though very
sensitive. If he catches you naked, he'll nip at your butt. He's cat safe and
little dog safe. After going to the bathroom, he insists on scratching the lawn
all around it. He loves the car and travels well.
Zam: Gorgeous red brindle with long white stockings on her front legs,
and a patch of white across her chest and neck. She's lean and long, and sweeter
than pie. She was a Class A runner, and was disqualified too many times for
interference. She likes to ride in the car, though she sometimes doesn't want
to come out. She's cat safe.

Sid -- Cindy Earl,
Las Vegas, Nevada
Two-year-old,
red brindle male with lots of moxie. He's a big mush, who loves to play and
follow you everywhere. He's still so overwhelmed with his good fortune, he's
currently pacing through the night, trying to find just the right place to sleep.
He'll look right into your face, begging for love. He's trying to find his place,
so around food especially, he will growl at other dogs. Listens really well,
and just needs you to tell him what it is you want from him.
May 1998

Greta
-- Linda and Jack Becker, St. George, Utah
This almost two-year-old petite, dark brindle girl will keep
you alert. A bundle of energy and love, she's looking for a home and playmates,
where someone will match her big heart! Cat safe. She was scheduled for terminal
surgery at CSU.

Lady and Desperado
-- Tine and Bill Close, Big Piney, Wyoming
Lady:
My Lady is all that and more. An elder stateswoman at nine, this blue brindle
female is just learning the meaning of trust. She beat all her competition,
and then went on to raise litters of puppies. Hesitant with strangers, as she
grows in trust, her face lights up, her tail wags and I actually saw her bounce
yesterday as we went on our walk. She will break your heart.
Read Lady's Story
Desperado: A tall, skinny, black-and-white youngster whose only current
desire is to not let me out of his sight. Sweet, sad and definitely Velcro,
this 1.5-year-old's front legs are bowed and lax, which contributes to the sad
sack looks he is perfecting. It, unfortunately, might also contribute to health
problems later on. He loves to stretch his lanky frame over my legs as we sleep
at night. Not cat safe.

Greta Belle -- Nan
and Steve White, Kingman, Arizona
This two-year-old white girl, with brindle spots will break
your heart. The tiniest girl I've ever seen, with a whippet head and elegant
lines, she is very tentative about what this new life offers at the moment.
She's coming out of her shell, as she's starting to steal items in the house
and redecorate the lawn with them. She also loves getting bratwurst treats and
will take them out of your hand. She will smile and lick your hand if you ask
really nicely. With someone to understand and love her, she'll soon understand
that life is worth living. Not cat safe. She was scheduled for terminal surgery
at CSU.

Meatball
-- Chris Griesmann, Las Vegas, Nevada
Meatball was adopted through Tucson, from the Greyhound Gang.

Mac -- Mario and
Johanna Nakagawa, Las Vegas, Nevada
My Big Mac. Well, not really so big at 65 lbs. of brindle boy.
Mac really needs someone to love and understand him, someone he can trust. He
currently approaches life as if it is there to harm him, and he is going to
face it with a gruff exterior before it can get to him. Currently, when men
approach him his round, brown eyes will bug out, and his body will lower in
submission. But as he grows more comfortable in his surroundings, this is starting
to change. Just yesterday, he chased toys and almost grinned. He sleeps right
next to me, and is always using those big browns to look in to my face and make
sure everything is really OK. He was scheduled for terminal surgery at CSU and
was rescued by a greyhound lover.
June 1998

Grace -- Dianna
and Michael Headford, Las Vegas, Nevada
A very sweet, happy, playful 1.5-year-old little brindle girl.
She loves her toys, and is very inquisitive. She really likes kids, travels
very well in the car, and is cat safe. She'll need a lot of exercise, and will
need to be taught what is OK and what is not, as she doesn't really like to
listen to the word NO.

River -- Annette
and Dave Growden, Las Vegas, Nevada
Extremely
handsome, 72 lb., white male with ticking and ear brindle patches. Limitless
character. A real lover, the first night he climbed right into my bed and made
himself comfortable. Listens well, though he is very mischievous and needs a
lot of attention. He is curious about cats, but not harmful. Dropped muscle
took him off the track.
July 1998

Zach
-- Cindy and Jim Zidow, Las Vegas, Nevada
He's so gorgeous with those mascara eyes, and the golden red
fawn hair. He's quiet and somewhat reserved, though if you ask him to do something
by placing your hand on his collar he'll do whatever you ask. At 75 lbs., and
only 2 years old, he will be a big boy when he fills out. Not cat safe.
Cindy:
"Thanks for sending Zach to us, he was just the very best, all of Summerlin
is missing him, He touched so many hearts, his outside beauty always got their
attention, and then they discovered his heart."
August 1998

Stalker
-- Virginia Robb, Charlene & Keith, Las Vegas, Nevada
This big brindle boy is a lover, particularly of women. He's
very sweet, likes to sleep on the bed with you, and wants to be part of your
life. He fancies himself a guard dog too, and will protect his home with lots
of noise from any intruder. He loves attention and play, and would do better
in a home without other boy dogs, as he likes to be top dog. Stalker is the
brother of Alexi, adopted out by the Greyhound Gang.
September 1998

Gladys -- Dianna
and Michael Headford, Las Vegas, Nevada
This little red brindle girl started off very shy, but within
2 days she is already coming up to me. She is a bundle of energy and likes to
get everyone going. She always has to be where the action is, and with time
her shyness will disappear. She is the sister of Troy and Grace. She is very
alert, very curious and a major thief.

Troy
-- Dianna and Michael Headford, Las Vegas Nevada
Troy is Gladys and Grace's brother, and is as shy as they come.
He will not come up to anyone, and is particularly shy of men. Because he is
insecure, he will bark at strangers. He will need lots of time, love and trust
before he will show any in return. He needs to be in a home with other out-going
dogs. When he feels comfortable, he likes to play with stuffed animals, and
lick toes. When you do approach him, he will let you pet him and touch him all
over. He feels most comfortable outside, and is a major thief.

Warlord -- Delane
and Al Wilkins, Las Vegas, Nevada
A huge, black-and-white bundle of love and joy. This 80 lb.
boy just wants to have fun and wants to have it with you. He is very playful
and forceful, but listens well. He is a big goof, which belies his name. He
is not cat safe.

C'More
-- Renae Lindley & Bill Marquardt, Las Vegas, Nevada
Tiger brindle male. 75 lb. 5 yr. old. Gangly, sweet and anxious
to please. Loves to play, and adores kids. Will kiss them a lot! Will make you
laugh when he does things like pull down bed covers and take pillows off the
bed. He has an extra rib. Will sing along with you or a harmonica. This is a
sensitive boy who needs some loving!

Dark Wings -- Linda
and Frank McGinnis, Las Vegas, Nevada
Gorgeous shiny dark brindle boy with touches of orange. 73 lb.
and 6 yr. old. He's a very sweet, loyal guy who is a creature of habit. He has
ears that stand straight up and a cow lick that extends from his ears down his
neck. He can be a worrier, as he is very sensitive, and at times can be a bit
macho with certain male dogs. Messy eater. Very attentive to squeaky toys. Enjoys
car rides.
October 1998

Coach -- Carol and
Tony Kasday, Las Vegas; now Oregon
Sweet, 70 lbs., gorgeous 3-year-old fawn boy with to-die-for
mascara eyes. He's just realizing that his life has changed -- drastically --
and so is a bit hesitant about new things like toys flying through the air,
strangers coming to visit, getting in the car. But he wags his tail a lot, and
smiles in the morning when he wakes up. He just needs some time to take it all
in and then his playful side will rule. He does fancy himself a guard dog at
the moment, as he does bark at all visitors. He is also a very big baby, and
really milks any injury (even imagined ones) for attention.

Waldo and Donna
-- Gloria Connor, Las Vegas, Nevada
Waldo:Very handsome, regal, 65 lb., 6-year-old, brindle
boy who just adores being with you. He looks to you to tell him everything is
all right, as he could no longer be with his family of 3 years. (through no
fault of his!) He loves to play and has a lot of energy, rides well in the car,
gets along well with kids and other animals, though has a fear of men and thunderstorms.
He snuggles really well in bed, and actually leaves room for you! This boy has
to go to a special home who will know they have a keeper, because he deserves
a lot of love the rest of his life.
Donna:
Petite, high energy, black 7-year-old girl. Learned to bark from other breeds
of dogs, and is very certain she knows her own mind, and you should know her
mind too!
November 1998

Call -- Tom Rodgers,
Las Vegas, Nevada
Very sweet, attentive and loving, 7-year-old, platinum blond
boy. His gorgeous eyes and soft coat make you just want to wrap yourself around
him. He loves to lay across your lap, and just wants you to adore him. He's
very playful, and loves toys. He can't get a lot of exercise because of a broken
hock that ended his racing career. His teeth will need special attention, as
he has gum disease. But this is one boy who just wants to give and get love!

Ferrari -- Steve
McPike, Lubbock, Texas
Ferrari
was a beautiful tiger striped red brindle. She had raced for 5 years and had
been used for breeding for 5 years and truly had had a hard life. She was missing
a toe on one of her hind feet and had numerous scars. Her teeth were mostly
non-existent, having been worn down to the gum line. Racing had taken its toll
on her body but not on her spirit. Her elegance and desire for companionship
were evident from our first meeting.
