Greyhound Gang Contest Voting Problems

Some users have reported problems with being unable to vote in the Greyhound Gang Contests. Whilst we have security in place to help prevent vote rigging, we certainly do not want to stop valid users from voting for your favorite hounds.

If you are unable to vote for any reason, please fill out this form and submit it. We will investigate the issue and trace through our logging system to find out why you can't vote - we will then, if appropriate, update the contest software.

PLEASE- do tell us why you can't vote, or what happens when you do - otherwise we'll never be able to track the issue

Thank you for your patience!

Frequently Asked Questions

I voted, but the percentage hasn't changed for my hound...

On average, each contest now receives over 25,000 votes in total. At the start of any contest, the total votes are low, so a single vote may have a big effect on the percentage. At the end of the contest, a single vote will have a much lower effect - to move the percentage by 0.1 (the lowest we measure to), you'd need to vote 250 times. Be assured, we *do* count every vote.

I voted, and the percentage for my hound went down...

Remember, you're not the only person voting. At peak times we see over 200 votes a minute. If you vote for hound A, and 199 people vote for hound B at the same time - the average score for your hound is going to go down. Be assured, we *do* count every vote.

I voted 10 times, but only 7 were counted...(put your own numbers in)

As above - you won't be the only person voting in the contest. You don't see a total number of votes on the scoring chart, only a percentage score. Be assured, we *do* count every vote.

It told me that I had already voted...but I haven't...

You probably linked directly to the webpage from somewhere else, then! We know that some entrants into the competition place forum posts saying "Please vote for my hound", and then giving a link to the page. When you click on that link and hit the page, your vote is counted immediately. You can vote for another hound straight away, or you can wait a few minutes (3, at the moment) to vote again for that same hound. Be assured, we *do* count every vote.

Why has Rover got 90% of the vote when my little Fluffy only has 1%...

We do investigate these issues. The normal voting pattern in the contests is for two or three hounds to be way out ahead of the others. Not because of anything illegal, but simply because they have more votes (or forum members) than the othes. As long as everyone stays within the spirit of the rules, it's fine. We've been known to ask people to vote for our hounds in other website competitions...

Am I vote rigging...

If you have to ask, the answer is No! We don't mind people putting links to their contest entry on other websites; it makes people aware of us and of our work to save Greyhounds. We do object when people write programs to vote for their hound, as that's unfair to other entrants, and we occasionally do have to take action. But one person voting every three minutes for two weeks isn't going to do anything except give you a sore finger!
